The SB Journal welcomes you to SB Chats!
SB Chats is a series of brief talks showcasing amazing boss ladies behind incredible brands.
For this series, we are very excited to be partnering with Kaleidos this Sunday October 21 from 1pm - 4pm, as Amanda Vega showcases carefully curated vintage apparel along with edited selection of ethically made designs by independent designers, makers, and brands.
Amanda is a good friend of mine and an online retailer who owns Kaleidos, who I've admired for a long time. I wanted to invite you to get to know her on a personal level through our SB Chats and in person this coming Sunday!
1. What's the first thing you do to get a good start to your morning?
Mornings are the most sacred moments of my day. It’s my time for self-care and stillness before starting my work day. To get a good start, I usually stretch my body, open up the blinds to watch the day wake up with me, brush my teeth, and then drink a heaping glass of water. Then I’ll usually make myself a large healthy breakfast consisting of organic eggs & whatever veggies I have in the fridge, and pour over a cup of black coffee. Sometimes I’ll listen to an inspiring entrepreneurial podcast while I make and eat my breakfast.
2. Everything tastes better with a little: Love
3. Why is being an eco-conscious brand important to you?
Striving for a more sustainable fashion culture is something I value strongly at Kaleidos. I believe each of us can do our part in being more mindful of the footprint we create and leave behind for our future generations. As a retailer, I am taking my part by fully transition into using 100% biodegradeable packaging by 2019. I vet all my designers who I carry, ensuring they practice or make effort toward ethical & sustainable production. Also, our vintage is a great eco-conscious way to shop! Shopping vintage reduces fabric and water waste in producing a new item. All of our vintage clothing is carefully sourced and professionally cleaned using a green dry cleaners!
4. What's a piece of jewelry you cannot live without?
My wedding ring and band, of course! Also, my necklace that says “sis.” My sisters have the exact same necklace. We all live in different parts of the world now, so wearing it every day makes me feel closer to them.
5. If you had one week to escape where would you go and what would you do?
Somewhere in nature with my husband where we could enjoy solitude and quiet.
6. What is one piece of advice you could give to aspiring boss ladies?
I have more than one piece of advice:
Believe and invest in yourself.
Know your “why” and clarify. No matter what step of the process you are in, always practice stepping back and remind yourself of why you are doing this. Everything should fall in place around that core reason. Make this crystal clear to yourself and learn to communicate it clearly to others. It takes lots of trial and practice, but keep practicing these two things throughout your journey!
7. If you could define your (BRAND) in three words, what would they be?
Cool, creative, conscious.
