Earthbound (Terra Cotta)
Terra Cotta is from the Latin word terra cocta "baked earth", a type of earthenware that is a clay-based. The clay pottery tradition of Mexican culture is one of the oldest traditions that bridges the ancient pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican civilizations with the post-Columbian Mesoamerican civilizations and present-day Mexico. These unique clay pots are handmade by the ancient Pre-Columbian Purépecha artisans who were mostly women using primitive pottery and firing techniques.
The rustic aesthetic of Mexican clay creations is enhanced by the presence Purépecha Indian women who utilized the clay to bring functionality for everyday living. Terra Cotta clay was shaped into dishware, vases, sculptures, pots, flatware and used for decorative home accessories.
Potters to this day still use local clay that they purify by the ancient Mexican methods. The bold color of Terra Cotta clay is handcrafted into pottery from the mineral-rich clays of Mexico.
The rustic aesthetic of our Mexican clay creations is enhanced by the presence of their centuries ago functionality for everyday living. The vases and pots in this section can be used as decorative accessories on their own or for displaying real or artificial plants and flowers.
