Introducing the Hidden Gems Series

The Hidden Gems Series

While most of us know the “mainstream” gemstones tied to each month, what many don’t realize is that most months actually have more than one birthstone — some unexpected, often overlooked, yet deeply meaningful.

That’s where The Hidden Gems Series begins. The tradition of birthstones dates back to ancient religious and cultural beliefs, spanning both Eastern and Western philosophies.

Some trace the concept to the Breastplate of Aaron, described in the Book of Exodus, which featured twelve gemstones representing twelve tribes of Israel.

Others look to Hindu traditions, where the Navaratna ("nine gems") are each connected to celestial forces and worn for spiritual balance and cosmic alignment. No matter their origin, birthstones hold deep symbolic power, more than just adornments, they’re personal talismans with spiritual significance.

With a little gem in my pocket and a birthday just two days away, it feels only fitting to launch this series during my birthday week, beginning with the month of July.

Known as chalcedony and part of the quartz family

Formed through layered bands of silica minerals, giving it its rich, glossy black and sometimes green appearance - its rich, glossy appearance is ideal for adding depth and drama to minimalist jewelry.

Onyx is a grounding stone known for its ability to absorb negative energy and promote inner strength — its sleek black hue also makes it a timeless, versatile addition to any jewelry collection.

TURQUOISE

COPPER RICH MINERAL OF THE EARTH

Turquoise forms naturally from copper-rich minerals, giving it that iconic blue-green color and earthy, one-of-a-kind patterns.

A hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum, prized for its natural sky-blue to greenish hues and unique matrix patterns, it makes every piece one-of-a-kind and full of organic charm.

Turquoise, revered by ancient civilizations for its protective and healing qualities, brings a vibrant pop of color and a sense of serenity that perfectly captures the spirit of summer.
