The Art of Layering

One of the top questions we get is how to layer your necklaces. Layering necklaces is a great way to add depth and style to your outfit. However, it can be a bit tricky to get the perfect layered look. That's why we've put together these 5 tips to help you decide how to layer your pieces.

Step 1: Choose your foundational piece

The first step in layering your necklaces is to choose your foundational piece. This is the necklace that you want to be the focal point of your layered look. You can start with something choker length, around 15"-16", or a larger pendant. The key is to choose pieces that have extenders or links that can size up or down, giving you versatility.

Step 2: Determine the length of your second piece

Once you have your foundational piece, it's time to choose your second necklace. The general rule of thumb is to make sure it falls 2"-3" lower from the first necklace. This will create a visually appealing layered effect. You can also choose to go short and long. In this case you can choose a necklace that layers 16"-18" and a pendant that falls at 28"-30".

Step 3: Play with different lengths

Don't be afraid to play with different necklace lengths when layering. Experiment with necklaces of different lengths to create a cascading effect. This will add dimension and visual interest to your layered look.

Step 4: Mix and match different styles

When choosing your necklaces, consider mixing and matching different styles. Whether you choose simple chains or styles with pendants, make sure they vary in weight and size. Avoid mixing thin chains and instead opt for a variety of weights, like mixing 2mm-3mm thickness with a chunkier chain, for the best results.

Step 5: Consider the neckline of your outfit

Lastly, consider the neckline of your outfit when layering necklaces. If you're wearing a low-cut or V-neck top, layered necklaces will complement the neckline nicely. For higher necklines, a singular chunkier necklace works well. Take into account the overall balance and proportion of your outfit when layering you're necklaces.

By following these 5 tips, you'll be able to create a beautifully layered necklace look that adds a touch of elegance and style to any outfit. Remember to have fun and experiment with different combinations to find the perfect layered look for you!
